Texas A&M International University, more popularly referred to as simply TAMIU, is a public, co-educational, state-supported university located in Laredo, which is a city in the US state of Texas that serves as the county seat of Webb County, with a population of over 233 000 inhabiatnts, estimated during the 2007 census.
TAMIU was established in 1969, first starting as a branch of Texas A&I University at Kingsville, under the name of Texas A&I University at Laredo, serving as an upper-level University for juniors, seniors, and graduate students. Its current name was adopted in 1993, two years later TAMIU becoming a 4-year university.
Today, Texas A&M International University offers its students, who number approximately 5600, undergraduate, graduate and doctoral degrees, through 5 colleges, which include the College of Arts and Sciences, A. R. Sanchez Jr. School of Business and the College of Education.
TAMIU's sports teams call themselves the Dustdevils and they compete in NCAA Division II, since September 1, 2008, when the university became an active member, in various sports for both men and women.
